Women's empowerment

In 2016, a honey cooperative was created with the main objective of empowering women from villages and taking advantage of natural resources as a source of income.

What has been done

Empty

8 Villages

NASCO has placed honeycombs in 8 villages near Sawla (15 honeycombs/village).

127 women

It has involved 127 women from the area.

First harvest

In August 2018, the first honey crop was harvested.

Bee colonies

The first results of the pollen analysis (January 2019) gave us the information to optimize the maintenance of the bee colonies.

Cooperative

The professionalization of the cooperative led us to increase the economic income of the families in the area to make the self-management of NASCO classrooms viable.

2023 Objectives

Optimize material use

(beekeeper’s suit, tools…)

Expand project

Expand the project to Gintalpe through the installation of 10-15 honeycombs.

Training and repair

Construction and repair of beekeeping boxes (Kenia model).

Improve collection

Improve the collection and storage of honey through the training of women (use of equipment and hygiene).

Train beekeepers

Train local beekeepers in the techniques necessary to optimize colony expansion and consequently increase honey production.

Goals

Design and implement a plan to optimize the use and maintenance of tools.

Creation of a new cooperative in Gintalpe (construction and installation of honeycombs).

Training: Detect problems and propose actions. Improve communication with those responsible for the cooperative.

Review of Yoleyiri and Kodayina combs (1 and 2). Study a possible marketing channel for honey.
