It’s been a decade since we as a society made the commitment to feed minds in Ghana through the promotion of digital education and we decided to take action on the problem of immigration in the country of origin.
On the occasion of our 10th anniversary, on November 22 we celebrated what we had achieved with volunteers, partners, collaborating companies, the management committee and our advisory board. The event was held at the SHE Bistro, in Barcelona, where we chatted, laughed and reminisced about these past years and those to come.
On September 12, 2012, NASCO Feeding Minds opened the first computer lab in Ghana. After speaking with the country’s ministry of education and many difficulties, Ousman Umar decided to launch his proposal to create computer classrooms on his own. 10 years later, we have established 14 computer classrooms in the country, 43 schools with access to these classrooms integrated into the computerization process, the preparation of our teachers and training for more than 20,000 students.
In addition, thanks to the help and donations of countless partners, companies and volunteers, we have been able to send more than 360 complete computer equipment to Ghana and continue working on the different projects underway. Since, we not only work to provide digital education to the younger generations of Ghana, but we also promote education, economic development and the well-being of the community with our Beekeeping projects, empowering women and taking advantage of natural resources such as source of income, Sports with Values, instilling values in boys and girls that help them grow emotionally and Fruits for education, promoting environmental education of the population and supporting the economic growth of schools and villages. This year we have finished the first phase of our house, Sumbo House, which will serve as a base office and house volunteers and teachers, as well as a warehouse.
“Without your help, none of this been possible”. Ousman Umar
In accordance with the sustainable development objectives, our work revolves around offering quality education, since we believe that it is one of the most influential factors in the advancement and progress of individuals and communities. Education provides us with knowledge, but it also enriches our culture, spirit and values.
In the near future, we want to continue to have a significant impact on education in Ghana, which is why we plan to strengthen quality education with training for our teachers in the coming years, continue to facilitate Internet access via satellite connection in all classrooms and the start-up of 2 computer rooms per year.
It is not necessary to remember that we are an organization created horizontally, by people from the aid-receiving country, that we are, and we want to create prosperity, not charity, and that we collaborate in promoting structural changes capable of contributing to education, computerization and job creation in order to offer responses to reduce immigration.
Thus, the celebration of these first 10 years of our organization must serve us, in addition to making a reminder of our history and our work, necessarily full of gratitude, to reaffirm our reason for being.
Here’s to many more years!
