The first production of honey from the women’s cooperative of NASCO Feeding Minds is being sold under the brand name of Mel Solidària together with Mel Muria.
In the town of El Perelló, NASCO Feeding Minds and Mel Muria jointly presented the new product, Mel Solidària, at the head office of Mel Muria on January 13th. The profits from sales of the honey will be destined to NASCO Feeding Minds.
In 2016 NASCO Feeding Minds created a honey producing cooperative in Ghana with the main objective of empowering women in nearby villages and to make the most of the natural resources and to raise the income of families in the area, facilitating access to education for their children. Since then, Mel Muria has been working on the project by providing beekeeping material, clothing and final products.
At present, there are 127 women working in the cooperative from 8 different communities that manage a total of 131 beehives.
Mel Muria has designed a pack of honey that contains a jar of 100 grams of wildflower honey from their own beehives and a jar of honey containing 28 grams of wildflower honey produced and managed by the cooperative in Ghana.
Mel Muria will allocate 5 € for the purchase of each pack to our Association for digital education and economic development in rural communities in Ghana by providing a solid education and future will help to avoid those hundreds of thousands of immigrants from risking their lives in the desert and on the sea in search of false opportunities.
The presentation of this new product was held at the main office of Mel Muria by both Rafael Muria, owner of Mel Muria and fifth generation honey producer and Ousman Umar, founder and president of NASCO Feeding Minds. The honey can be purchased at their online store.
