With a common goal in hand, the most supportive Catalan civil society has met for yet another year at the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella in Barcelona to raise funds for the creation of computer labs in rural schools in Ghana. Solidarity has permeated a festive atmosphere where great performances by the Musicals’ Choir and Ramón Mirabet have been lived, and great raffles and other surprises have been enjoyed, including the auction of a Brompton, a unique edition in the world with the colors of Ghana, and a shirt signed by FC Barcelona’s Guinea Bissau player, Ansu Fati.
The day has had the outstanding presence of Judit Mascó, as a conductor of the event, the intervention of Gemma Nierga and Dr. Bonaventura Clotet. Ousman’s white adoptive mother has been invited on stage and there has been a live connection from Ghana with the co-founder of NASCO Feeding Minds, Banasco Seidu Nuhu. Likewise, Judit Mascó surprised Ousman and the entire audience with the invitation of Olú, a friend and also a survivor of the long journey through the desert they made together.
The opportunity has been provided to learn first-hand about the transformative projects that NASCO Feeding Minds has been developing for more than 10 years throughout Ghana. To the beat of the best music, the attendees have been able to enjoy drinks courtesy of the Fundació Damm and food at an affordable and supportive price thanks to the generosity of Cooking Area, Chickoa, Flash, Flash, Grupo Nomo and Mercès and especially the Ghanian patatas bravas, a joint creation of Bravas Barcelona and Torres chef Sergio Millet. There has been a thankful statement to the three main sponsors of the event: Brompton, Cisco and Fundación Damm.
10 years of NASCO Feeding Minds
This day has also been especially emotional for all the people involved with the NGO because it was 10 years since the inauguration of the first computer room.
Solidarity Tuesday was born in 2019 with the purpose of symbolically celebrating Ousman Umar’s birthday. According to Ghanaian traditions, it is not the date you are born that matters, but the day of the week on which you are born. Ousman Umar, who knows little about his childhood, only knows for sure that he was born on a Tuesday. The first edition of Solidarity Tuesday, which took place in 2019, featured the participation of Bruno Oro as master of ceremonies and a performance by Delafé, and was also a resounding success, gathering 300 people and raising €6,900.
With an unbridled rhythm, lots of emotions, laughter, surprises and music, this second edition of the Ousman Solidarity Tuesday is closed, which has been a great achievement for the entire team of coordinators and volunteers who make it possible for the project to continue with more strength than ever.
See you next year!
